I play a lot of Rimworld. I adore its stupid story events, the mods, the customisation and watching my dumb little pawns do dumb little things.
Many, many hours of entertainment. Recently, I've been looking for something that gives me similar hours of enjoyment, plus story events and -obviously- world domination. And I see Crusader Kings recommended.
Now I know this game is essentially a mediavel history sim, with historical accuracy at its core. I can get behind that.
Women characters are spies, baby makers, and political alliance assets, I guess, and maybe this game ain't what I was looking for]
